Appendix 2: World-wide Web Quiz on Space Weather and the
International Heliophysical Year – Web Quiz all over Europe: In
Türkiye
One of the common exercises being involved during the Action was the translation and competition of a
World-wide Web Quiz on Space Weather and the International Heliophysical Year – Web Quiz all over
Europe: In Türkiye.
2.i) The “World-wide Web Quiz on Space Weather and the International
Heliophysical Year – Web Quiz all over Europe: In Türkiye” poster was on
display at several bulletin boards at the METU Campus and at our COST
Webpage. (please refer to App. 2.vi, e-mail #10 for the relevant e-mail communication)
SWEETS (Uzay Havası ve Avrupa – Güneş ile İlgili bir Eğitim Aracı; Space
Weather and Europe – an Educational Tool with the Sun), sizleri dünya çapındaki
ilk Uzay Hava Durumu ve Güneş Fiziği Yılı konulu web tabanlı bilgi yarışmasına
katılmaya davet ediyor.
SWEETS Ortaklığı üyesi ülkelerden (Avusturya, Belçika, Fransa, Almanya,
Litvanya, Hollanda, Norveç, Polonya, Portekiz, Slovakya ve Türkiye) kazananlar,
bilim insanlarının günlük yaşamlarını görmek ve onlara katılmak amacıyla bir
günlüğüne SWEETS Enstitülerine davet edileceklerdir. Birinci olan katılımcı,
Ağustos 2007’de Kuzey Norveç’teki Andoya Roket Atış Sahasında gerçekleşecek
olan kalkışta bulunma hakkı kazanacaktır. Bunun yanında, Uzay Havası ve
Uluslararası Güneş Fiziği Yılı (International Heliophysical Year, IHY) konulu
SWEETS televizyon filminin bir parçası olacaktır.

1) Few minutes ago, I checked the SWEETS Turkish Web Quiz Subscription form. I cannot believe my eyes
on the poor Turkish which appears in the subscription form.
2) It is very important for us the present unacceptable Turkish to be replaced by the correct version, which
we have been providing.
3) By curiosity, who did the translation for you or as my students guess, did you use any online translation
web page? If the first case is valid, I am sorry to say but he/she does not know any Turkish, or in the second
case then such online translation web pages are useless.
4) One of my students who took part in the competition on the Quiz received an "automatic reply" from
your end. She reported to us that the Turkish is very very poor on that as well. I am very happy to provide
you with a correct translation if you send us the statements to be translated please.

Would you please also correct the followings into nice Turkish:
1) Attachment / figure 1: "Mutlu etmek doldurmak belgili tanimlik bicim" is very wrong. The correct
version:
"Lutfen asagidaki kutulari doldurunuz"
2) The e-mail to the competition participents bear the following wrong Turkish sentences: "Eyvallah icin
senin katilma ustunde bu kisa sinav. Belgili tanimlik kazanan -ecek var olmak notified var olmak e-posta."
I can not see the original text statements. I can not make any sense out of the above sentences. If you want
to express the following English sentences into Turkish (upon my guess), here is the correct good Turkish
version. Otherwise, please send us the original text in English. Then I will supply you with the proper
version of it:
"Thank you for attending the web quiz. The winners will be announced via e-mail."
Turkish version;
"Bu kisa sinava katildiginiz icin tesekkur ederiz. Kazananlara sonuclar e-posta ile duyurulacaktir."
3) Attachment / figure 2: The Turkish translation of "here" is "buraya" like higlighted in the attachment.
The link to the quiz should be on the word "buraya"; NOT on "icin".

It is thus required to advertise the quiz more heavily. For this we need your help. So, please take every step

the webpage (see attachment).
Please modify (and translate) the draft according to you specific situation and then use it to inform your
local and national media.

Regarding the winner: only the main winner will be drawn on 16 July 2007. However, it is suggested by

the SWEETS and she chose to get a Masters Degree on Space Weather.
