Sevgin Demirci, MSc Curriculum Vitae Middle East Technical University Faculty of Sciences and Arts Biological Sciences Department / Population Genetics Laboratory PERSONAL Name : Sevgin Surname : Demirci Place/Date of Birth : Eskişehir- Turkey / 1985 CONTACT Mailing address : METU Biological Sciences Building Lab 147 Cankaya Ankara e-mail : [email protected] BACKGROUND AND RESEARCH INTERESTS I graduated from Biology programme at Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey in 2009. I took my Master of Science degree from Bioinformatics program under Health Informatics Department in the same university in May 2012. My thesis project under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Inci Togan, has focused on mtDNA based genetic diversity of native sheep breeds and Anatolian mouflon (Ovis gmelinii anatolica) in Turkey. I worked as both wet lab scientist (preparing 240 sample DNAs for sequencing) and bioinformatician (analyzing those sequences in the aspect of genetic diversity) in my thesis. Likewise I have worked as both wet lab scientist and bioinformatician at METU Population Genetics lab for projects supported by The Scientific & Technological Research Council of Turkey and a project of General Directorate of Nature conservation and National Parks, Ministry of Forestry and Aqua Works since 2009. Although in my dissertation, I mainly used package programs to perform bioinformatics analyses on DNA sequence data, I am also comfortable in writing codes in C programming language as well as in R and MATLAB since I implemented most of bioinformatics algorithms in C as a part of my graduate training (in the context of Algorithms, Mining and DBMS Concepts with Applications course). Furthermore, I am familiar with SQL codes and database building. Beside the languages that I learn from graduate courses, I attended to the short course named ‘Introduction to programming with Python’ given by METU Continuing Education Center in September 2012. I am interested in Landscape genetics, Evolutinary biology, Population genetics, Systems biology, and high-throughput data analysis.
