NIGHTFALL BAŞLIKLI KİTABINDA MÜZİKAL ÖZELLİKLER
Kazuo Ishiguro’nun 2009 yılında yayımlanan Nocturnes: Five Stories of Music and Nightfall
başlıklı öykü kitabı müzikal özellikleri ve edebiyat-müzik etkileşimi açısından önemli bir yapıttır.
Bu çalışmada Nocturnes: Five Stories of Music and Nightfall kitabında müzikal unsurlar ve
yazınsal-müzikal bağlantılar incelenecektir. Öyküler özellikle, müziğin metafor olarak kullanımı,
bir müzik türü olan Noktürn’ün işlevleri ve müzik-modernizm ilişkisi bakımından irdelenecektir.
Kitapta, değişen çeşitli duygu durumlarını yansıtan ve Ishiguro’nun “acı-tatlı jazz” olarak
adlandırdığı farklı öykü/noktürnlerin modernist kompozisyonu ele alınacaktır.

iterature and music are closely related disciplines. As E. M. Forster writes in
Aspects of the Novel, “in music fiction is likely to find its nearest parallel.”
(Forster, 2005 149). In Ishiguro’s work, the two disciplines are interwoven. This
paper argues that music is central to Ishiguro’s Nocturnes: Five Stories of Music and Nightfall
published in 2009 (hereafter referred to as Nocturnes). It is a book of short stories which deal
with musicians who could not fulfil their dreams. Music and the musical term “nocturne”
are integral to the book, as its title suggests as well. Music functions at various levels in
